  • Uri : The Surgical Strike – Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead this dramatised account of the 2016 Uri attack came as a smashing surprise which evoked patriotism in true sense, despite critics writing it off as too fictional.The film collected about Rs. 336 Crores worldwide and was declared Super Hit.
  • The Accidental Prime Minister – Based on the 2014 memoir of the same name  with Anupam Kher in the title role ,did see him pull off one of country’s respected Prime Minister.However ,due to infamous controversies involving both the BJP and Congress which made it appear like a propaganda ,the film minted about Rs. 31.87 Crores and failed to garner more.
  • Why Cheat India – After a title changing battle ,this Emraan Hashmi starrer disappointed the viewers with its not -so – engaging script and sank without a trace earning only Rs. 8.66 Crores at the box office. The critics hinted at the film as a lost opportunity .
  • Thackeray – Though the audience lauded Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s performance in this Abhijit Panse directed biopic the critics had mixed to negative reviews. However,the film went on to recover its cost and earned Rs. 69.60 Crores at the box office.
  • Manikarnika : The Queen of Jhansi. -Manikarnika was one of the most controversial films of 2019 owing to its feud between writer – director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi and the star of the film Kangana Ranaut, over script and direction credits. Nevertheless, the film paid true tribute to one of nations bravest freedom fighter despite the lengthy run time and went on to become a hit with Rs. 152 Crores at the box office.
  • Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga – Touted as one of the first Hindi “mainstream” film to feature a lesbian theme, it paired the real life father and daughter duo Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja along with Rajkummar  Rao in this epiphanic flick. Though the critics gave a pat on the back to the team for choosing a brave concept for the Indian diaspora it scored a comparatively less Rs.43.95 Crores for an Anil Kapoor starrer.
  • Gully Boy – This Zoya Akhtar directed February release brought out the rapper in Ranveer Singh and the best in Siddhant Chaturvedi ; turning out to be a perfect treat for Valentine couples on a movie date. Its soundtrack and the lyrics penned have made this film ‘to – die – for ‘ status. Box office kissed a whopping Rs.237 Crores , declaring it as a super hit !
  • Total Dhamaal – The third installment of the Dhamaal series, it marked the reunion of the hit 80s and 90s on screen couple Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit Nene after a long gap . An obvious commercial slapstick comedy it was declared a hit with a humongous Rs.226.28 Crores.
  • Lukka Chuppi – Directed by Laxman Utekar and starring country’s current chocolate boy Karthik Aryan with Kriti Sanon, the film tells the story of a television reporter experience living in with a headstrong woman in a just for laughs manner.Presuambly due to Karthik Aryans increasing fan following post SKTKS the film emerged with a successful Rs.126.03 Crores making it super hit.
  • Sonchiriya – Comprising of powerhouse of talents like Sushant Singh Rajput,Bhumi Pednekar,Manoj Bapjpai,Ranveer Shore and Ashutosh Rana the critics blessed them with rave reviews. However due to poor marketing and a tough competition with Lukka Chuppi made this dacoit drama sink without a trace with just Rs. 6.60 Crores.
  • Badla – The official remake of the Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’ it evoked excitement for various reasons. It marked the second collab between legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and Tapsee Pannus after Pink ;moreover this Sujoy Ghosh directed thriller backed by Shahrukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment garnered a rocking Rs138.49 Crores along with it’s thumbs up by the critics.
  • Kesari – Based on the account of the Battle of Saragarhi fought in year 1897,the film is backed by mega star Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra and directed by Anurag Singh. With a very high opening Kesari turned out to be another patriotism evoking masterpiece and went on to earn Rs. 204.82 Crores
  • Notebook – Marking debut for Pranutan Bahl and Zaheer Iqbal this Salman Khan Films productions turned out to be another dull,underwhelming love story. The film was panned for its writing despite a good soundtrack and manged only 3.72 Crores.
  • Romeo Akbar Walter – This action thriller film starring John Abraham and Mouni Roy had a lot of anticipation going on but the critics booed it for the unnecessary twists thrown in the plot which appeared deliberate to the audience . Though the cost of production got covered with Rs 53.47 Crores the film earned the box office was not kind enough.
  • The Tashkent Files – An exciting conspiracy thriller film about the unexplained death of former Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri , it stars majorly talented bunch of actors like Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah,Pallavi Joshi, Mandira Bedi,Mithun Chakraborty along with Pankaj Tripathi.  It was a surprise hit with a collection of Rs. 15.5 Crores.
  • Kalank – One of the highly anticipated films of 2019 turned out to be utter disaster despite the star cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan ,Sanjay Dutt,Madhuri Dixit Nene,Aditya Roy Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha.Backed by Dharma Productions it was a shock when the film was panned for its tried and tested plot,though Roy Kapoor was majorly appreciated for his performance. For a Dharma Production film it garnered only Rs. 141.96 Crores.
  • SOTY2 – The recently released Dharma Production film marks the debut for two newcomers, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey with Tiger Shroff in the main lead.The box office is yet to fully witness the magic of this Punit Malhotra directed flick and has managed to earn about Rs 61.78 Crores (est.).  Let’s wait and watch if SOTY2 will be a hit or a miss of 2019.
