ANANYA BIRLA LAUNCHES HER DEBUT EP ‘FINGERPRINT’

Ananya Birla’s infectious urban pop groove transports you to another dimension when she gets on the decks. Just in time for summer, she will release her much-anticipated debut EP via Universal Music Group and Island Records UK on May 17th.
The quadruple track collection titled ‘Fingerprint’ boasts an ebullient blend of pop, electro and R&B, showcasing Ananya’s determination towards building a versatile discography. The EP includes ‘Blackout’, featuring Nigeria’s leading music stars Vector and WurlD, as well as ‘All Night Long’, ‘Disappear’ and ‘Love Suicide’.  Recorded over a 12-month period, Ananya teamed up with hitmaker DJ Buddha (Pitbull, Jason Derulo, Afrojack), pop guru Nick Atkinson (Lewis Capaldi, Little Mix), Angela Hunte (Empire State of Mind), Edd Holloway (Gabrielle Aplin, Dean Lewis) and Grammy Awards Nominee Mood Melodies, to put this collection together.
The EP release marks the culmination of a ground-breaking 12 months for Ananya, in which the 24-year-old has firmly established herself as one of the most promising artists in the international pop scene. Since her debut single in 2016, the multi-platinum singer-songwriter has leapt from low-key gigs around London to hitting over 160million streams, performing at some of Asia’s biggest music festivals such as Sunburn, and featuring on major playlists around the world including Apple’s Best Of 2018.
Speaking on the deeply personal collection of songs, Ananya commented “This EP is really authentic to me and my own experiences. It’s mostly about love – the good and the bad. I wanted to cover the holistic journey, from falling in love to heartbreak to reconciliation. It took me a while to realize that life isn’t all about competing to a finish line – something which I’ve often struggled to do – it’s about enjoying every step of the journey. ‘Love Suicide’ talks about toxic love while ‘Disappear’ is all about testing your intent and stamina in relationships. ‘All Night Long’ is an electro-pop upbeat track and ‘Blackout’ is about taking a step back from the relentless pace of today’s world.”
Talking about “Fingerprint” and Ananya, Mr. Devraj Sanyal, Managing Director and CEO of Universal Music Group & EMI Music, India & South Asia said, “We have strategically built Ananya as an artist over the past two and a half years, since we dropped her first single. Now, after a solid build up period and 7 singles later, Ananya and all of us at Universal Music are ready to drop her debut EP. We finally think we are ready for her to take on the world. This is the first real step, and while we have miles and years to go, we are well on our way. We want all the love and support from her fans, our partners here and globally and everyone at large because a truly global Indian footprint is on its way.”
Ananya has already made waves in India; last year becoming the first homegrown artist to go platinum with an English language track. Taking full advantage of globalising music trends Ananya, has a number of exciting projects lined up including a collaboration with Jamaican star Sean Kingston and high profile performances in the UK and US which will be announced soon.
