The Ultimate Fashion Face Off At the French Riviera!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has made her share of red carpet mistakes in the past but that has never stopped her from aiming to grab comebacks in the right light. From the mixed feelings purple lipstick to the breath taking Cinderella gown, this time she chose to go straight for the gold – in the form of trailing fish tail. Her spot on make up with hints of glitter rubbed visibly on the ears as a background, emphasized the thing she is most famous for on this planet – her eyes; it had even Deepika Padukone going gaga over her. Though the fabric of the Jean- Louis Sabaji, mermaid gown does remind you of the cover we used to wrap our notebooks with when one ran out of the brown ones, the drama Rai Bachchan has put it into is indeed a sight to watch – and color coordinated with her twirling daughter Aradhya  Bachchan in a different shade of gold! This was followed by the feathery, Jon Snow similar, number by Ashi Studio. Out of all the whites that sprang up on the red carpet this is a personal favourite, along with a crowning hairdo and darkly sketched eyes. The only put off was when a zoom in was clicked, it showed a slightly greased set of Rai Bachchan’s features, which is a complete no – no. The red and white Christmas stick number by Leal Dacarett was casual yet chic as opposed to the all denim one with bell bottoms where it was too casual and less chic and the same goes for the  on – the – face red  holographic Mugler, which is a personal nay from here. All in all, given that she has been at Cannes for a comparitvely longer period of time and shared her monopoly light with another major fashionista named Sonam Kapoor a few years later, Rai Bachchan has managed yet again to grab eyeballs on the red carpet and didn’t crumble under the competitive pressure by the likes of other attendees like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and of course Kangana Ranaut. With more number of B-Town beauties walking down the Cannes carpet one would expect her to fizz out with her game. But no ma’m , ,she has notched it up a level higher!

Priyanka Chopra Jonas

It was a bit hard to focus on all the gowns she was strutting in with all that cute PDA  with hubby next arm Nick Jonas, who looked every bit as yummy as the slice of pizza he was feeding Chopra on the balcony . But coming back, this is Chopra Jonas’ debut at the film festival and she chose a thigh high split Roberto Cavalli shimmery gown which accentuated her beautiful curves.  She teamed the figure hugging number with Chopard  earrings. Her graphic eyeliner added the much required debut drama but her rest of the face ended up looking  slightly chappy as opposed to the extremely fresh and moist look Chopra Jonas served while pulling off an all white Honayda couture as an ode to late Princess Diana and Lebanese creation by Georges Hoebika . Full points for the hairstyle,  puffed up and high pony, respectively. It was a hattrick- and oh speaking of hat, especially the one which was teamed with a subtle, heavenly blue, silky dress  gave major envy. Not bad at all for the debut, the ‘Desi Girl’ has managed to wow the pardesis with her fashion game and has left us wanting for more!

Kangana Ranaut

The word risk is synonymous with her now, given that whatever risk she has taken while having her choices made has always been paid off! Every photograph of hers screams swag . Be it with the Shane and Falguni Peacock corset-  Kanjivaram saree from Madhurya creations with  royal purple gloves or the tuxedo with the symmetrically designed jacket ,which was one of the sexiest way anyone could have pulled of a tux, needless to say Ranaut has put herself on the map.  Extra marks for the braided crown which Ranaut teamed with the fairytale like Michael Cino ,off shoulder, delicate pink gown and the sculpted makeup with the black tuxedo avatar by Nedret Taciroglu. The only slight hint of irk sparked at how the upper half of the saree’s pallu looked really disheveled while rest of the attire looked like smooth caramel. The actress also wore a single sleeve white gown by Toni Maticevski but the attention went to the blue eyeliner and green jewels which defined the white. This uncrowned queen of Bollywood is now not just known for her roles but also for her risky and edgy sense of fashion and boy oh boy she is one to watch out for!

Deepika Padukone

One would think if you get a hubby like Ranveer Singh you would have only pros but Padukone has showed the cons as well. It seems the actress was still stuck with the Met Gala and decided to channel her hubby’s energy in the nimbooda style, voluminous Giambattista Valli gown. Given that neon is trending but the selection of color for this particular gown was a mistake and the style seemed similar to the famous pink gown she wore to the previous year’s Cannes, the latter won our hearts, of course. Though the head gear is a bonus which is loved, we can’t help but compare her appearance to the shower sponge. The right usage of neon was put into the the Off- White brand’s, black tulle dress with snake skin pattern. The ensemble which was paired with a neon snake skin clutch was brilliant. Speaking of brilliance Padukone did a nice job out of bows, the lady is hooked with it and we are hooked with those looks! That too in the Dundas style paired with Ariana Grande hairdo and eyeliner which made your heart go woohoo. Bonus, in the form of poppy orange heels ,which she teamed with blue and white ‘bawse’ suit. Apart from the sponge fiasco she seems in no mood to slow down on the fashion drama and set temperature soaring.

Sonam Kapoor

The last name on the list and a sad disappointment was that of Sonam Kapoor’s. Sonam Kapoor has had many fashion defining moments down the red carpets especially at Cannes. The fashionista has given a major let down as most of her attires lacked novelty and were painfully monotonous .  Novelty , outrageous creativity and experiments are the traits Kapoor had been synced with whenever she pulled off the unbelievable. It looked she got lost in the crowd and the strong identity she usually puts on every year uniquely through her outfit was not found this time – she instead fell for the now common neon . Be it her oversized Valentino red dress which didn’t compliment her tall figure , rather she got lost in the roomy dress or her black bow Elie Saab gown which again was too plain for someone usually so abreast with fashion. The earlier mentioned monopoly effect was defo broken this time and the only saving grace came in the form of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s ‘ Maharani’ look where she impressively made a necklace out of the collar and looked like a true blue blood and also in the Ralph and Russo ivory tuxedo with the sexy set of emerald necklace by Chopard. Knowing her, we know she will be back with her A -game soon!
