The aura of Bollywood is distinct and loved worldwide. The U.K, U.S.A, Far East, name any country and you will find admirers of Bollywood. Even Hollywood has been enamoured by the appeal of Bollywood, with many celebs expressing their desire to work in Bollywood movies. Bollywood movies are also making a mark in foreign markets through remakes with popular Bollywood movies getting one in the past. All these points got me thinking, what if we cast Hollywood actors in popular Bollywood movies from recent times. Wouldn’t that be a fun idea? Of course, it is!
However, in this article, we won’t just cast actors in their Bollywood roles but also give reasoning that fits their on-screen persona.
Original Actor: Ranveer Singh, Sara Ali Khan
Hollywood Counterpart: Chris Pratt, Emma Watson
Yeah, we did it, we got Star-Lord from MCU to don the cop uniform, at least in our imagination. But wouldn’t that be awesome? Throughout his career in TV and films, he has been known to possess incredible comedic talent. With his time as an on-screen Avenger, he has proved to be quite at ease with big spectacle action too. So, if Simmba were to go west, none other than Chris Pratt would fit the bill. As for Sara Ali Khan’s Shagun, we feel Emma Watson could be a great fit. She is known for playing characters that are fun, confident and intelligent, and Shagun in Simmba movie ticks off all those boxes.
- Veere Di Wedding
Original Cast – Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar, Shikha Talsania
Hollywood Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, Mindy Kaling
Veere Di Wedding set the standard for chick flicks in Bollywood. To be frank, it is one of the best buddy comedies made. The movie’s central protagonists are an interesting bunch of diverse characters, who are badass in their own way. Hence, we picked some of the best actresses in Hollywood to pull off these badass roles. Now for those who are thinking, what is Mindy Kaling doing in this list? Well, for now, it is 2019, so fan opinions are going to be diverse. Also, Shikha’s character in the original is perfect for Hollywood too, giving a glimpse into how Indians are funny, charming and can be well-written characters in the West.
- Shubh Mangal Saavdhan
Original Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi Pednekar
Hollywood Cast: Zac Efron, Emilia Clarke
Those who have seen the movie, know that the movie’s concept is such that it will work in Hollywood? If you haven’t watched this movie, we are not giving spoilers. Just go and check out Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. Considering the quirky premise of the film, we would need two stars who could handle the eccentrics of the script. Hence, we zeroed down on Zac Effron and Emilia Clarke. Now, yes, why Khaleesi? Well, she has done a romantic drama Me Before You. So, she can pull her Bhumi’s role too.
Original Cast: Rajkummar Rao
Hollywood Cast: Christian Bale
The very concept of Trapped gives you the chills. The sense of loneliness and need for survival simply keep you hooked to the movie. Majorly, that’s because of the fantastic performance by Rajkummar Rao. Taking method acting to the hilt (You should read about his preparation for the movie), Rajkummar looks the part in every respect. When talking about method acting in Hollywood, there are only a few names that come to mind. Having seen the Machinist (a great movie, btw), we feel Christian Bale would do justice to Rajkummar’s character if Trapped were to be made in Hollywood.
So, that was our list of Indian movies featuring Hollywood actors and actresses.
