Casting for Coolie No 1 was a tough task but enjoyable as well, says Andhadhun casting director Girdhar Swami

Girdhar Swami has worked hard to establish a name for himself in the casting world in Bollywood. The casting director who casts for ace directors like Madhur Bhandarkar, Sriram Raghavan and has cast for films like Andhadhun and many others was recently in charge of the casting team of Coolie No 1.

Says Girdhar, “Casting for Coolie No 1 was a tough task. David sir is a legendary director and his brief to me was clear with regards to the kind of actors and actresses he was looking for Coolie No 1. Keeping that in mind, I made sure to cast the right talent who could make sure the new Coolie No 1 looked fresh and entertaining.”

Speaking about the challenges this time, Girdhar said, “The challenge was to find the right face who could seamlessly transform into the roles of David sir’s comic caper. My challenge was to find actors and actresses who could ace comedy on screen naturally and effortlessly and accordingly I auditioned many and sent the final list to David sir.”

Talking about the film, Girdhar said, “Varun and Sara are very talented and extremely hardworking. It is very easy for everyone to draw comparisions but let me tell you both Varun and Sara have worked extra hard on the film to make sure the final result looks fantastic and entertaining. I am sure their efforts will not go unnoticed.”

Talking about his future projects, Girdhar says, ” I am casting for some exciting big budget films and webseries for an international OTT platform. These are exciting times for our industry because there are many talented actors around for us to choose and finalize. For now, I am looking out for exciting new faces for my current projects and once finalised, the official annoucements will be made.”
