Zoya Akhtar creates magic every single time with her films, be it ZNMD, Gully Boy and even Talaash. Her other directorial Dil Dhadakne Do released on 5th June 2015 revolves around a high society family and their first world problems. The film is a smooth sail of emotions which not only deals with the problems of the Mehra family but also some major issues like cheating, inequality, taboo around divorce etc. going on in the society. It also showcases how parents at times try to control their children in a certain way. The Mehras although wealthy are yet highly dysfunctional.

Filming the entire movie on a grand cruise ship with a huge star cast is not everyone’s cup of tea but Zoya did it with effortless ease. The thought process behind each and every character is truly commendable. Zoya has a unique filmmaking style which makes the characters appear real. She puts her soul in any movie she brings up and you can literally see it from her amazing writing and direction. It’s been 6 years since Dil Dhadakne Do released but it still feels fresh.

The movie accurately depicts why every family is dysfunctional in its own way and why it is ok to be so as long as you communicate with each other and not sugarcoat things when it comes to the more realistic parts of life. The cinematography and music will make you want to have a family holiday on a cruise ship. The film isn’t only limited to the ship and in fact discovers beautiful locations on the way which many of us wouldn’t have seen in other films. The dialogues sometimes hits you so hard that it makes you think twice about a certain scene and how things are not the same way as they appear to be. The film says so much without literally saying anything and that’s what makes DDD a must watch. Not to forget the brilliant acting of the stellar star cast that features Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Rahul Bose among others.

“Har Dil apni hi tarah Dhadakta Hai, Har Dil Dhadakne Do”. Well wouldn’t want it to be any other way.
