By: Priyal Joshi

Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam starrer OMG 2 released it’s official trailer today. It was a highly anticipated trailer as recently it was embroiled in controversy owing to the nature of the film which deals with a sensitive topic- religion. Hence, some were skeptical about the film and were waiting for the trailer. The film is certified ‘A’ along with 25 alterations. This is Akshay’s first film in 12 years to be certified as an ‘A’- rated film

The trailer starts and we’re introduced to the character of Tripathi ( Kanti Sharan Mudgal) who is a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva. He lives with his familly in Ujjain. The drama unfolds when his son is suspended from school for his immoral code of conduct. Kanti Sharan takes the mattter to court to fight for justice. Earlier, Akshay Kumar was supposed to essay the role of Lord Shiva but due to directions from CBFC and hence they changed the part to that of Messenger of Shiva. He seems to be guiding him through his battles. The movie is a satire, it’s a social commentary on our society today. It will definitely be an emotional rollercoaster.

The trailer is intriguing and the plot that seems rather predictable on the surface level happens to touch many sensitive topics subtly. Tripathi is seen giving an impactful monologue on Hinduism in courtroom which suggests that the film will also give insights on the different aspects of Sanatan Dharma. The film also talks about sex education and how it is still a taboo topic even in this day and age. That’s the case with Kanti Sharan’s son who is ridiculed in the society and suspended from school after a video of him engaging in ‘immoral’ act. The cinematography, dialogues, and background music is top notch. Pankaj Tripathi’s seamlessly natural acting and Akshay’s stage presence steals the show.

Like it’s successful prequel, OMG, this too seems to be promising to bring about a change in society through it’s strong social message. Yami Gautam is playing a pivotal role of a lawyer in this courtroom drama. The film also stars Arun Govil, Pawan Malhotra, Govind  Namdev. It is directed by Amit Rai and produced by Cape of Good films, Ashwin Varde, Vipul D Shah and Rajesh Bahl. It is slated to release on 11th August, 2023.
