Shahid Kapoor shines in a lackluster remake – 2 Stars

Deva, the Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit Mumbai Police, falls flat due to its slow pace, unengaging narrative, and very average execution. While Shahid Kapoor delivers a commendable performance, the film fails to offer anything new or exciting.

The story plods along at an agonizingly slow pace, failing to capture the intensity and intrigue of the original. The plot feels stretched and tedious, with unnecessary subplots and drawn-out sequences that test the audience’s patience. The lack of novelty is another major drawback, as the film offers nothing fresh or innovative, simply rehashing the original story without adding any new layers or perspectives.

The new climax, intended to add a twist, ultimately fails to impress. It feels contrived and unconvincing, lacking the emotional impact and surprise factor that would have made it memorable. The climax falls flat, leaving the audience with a sense of disappointment rather than satisfaction.

Despite the film’s shortcomings, Shahid Kapoor delivers a standout performance. He embodies the character with conviction and intensity, showcasing his versatility as an actor. Kapoor’s portrayal is the sole saving grace of the film, as he manages to keep the audience somewhat engaged despite the lackluster narrative.

Overall, Deva is a disappointing remake that fails to live up to the expectations set by the original. The film’s slow pace, unengaging story, and unexciting climax make it a tedious watch. While Shahid Kapoor’s performance is praiseworthy, it is not enough to salvage the film from its mediocrity. Deva is ultimately a forgettable cinematic experience that offers nothing new or exciting to fans of the original or the genre.
