In conversation with Mastram actress Amrita Dasgupta

Amrita Dasgupta who made her digital debut with web series Mastram (streaming on MX player) has received unanimous praise from viewers for her skilled acting and uber sensual expressions portrayed on screen. “I am overwhelmed with the response I have received. My Instagram DM is currently flooded with messages from people. I am happy to see that my role has been well received. I wish we could promote the series more but owing to lockdown nothing could be done.”

Currently chilling in Kolkata with her parents, Amrita has stayed in Mumbai ever since her MBA days. After completing her postgraduation, Amrita debuted in the world of modelling and has since then graced many prestigious fashion weeks include LFW. Her foray into acting however has been a recent one. “I started out as an actor 8 months ago. When I got a call for Mastram, I auditioned for it and the team as well as the director Harish sir liked my audition and I was finalised for the role,” reveals Amrita.

While her role demanded her to go bold on screen, Amrita opted for it as she had complete faith in her director and his team. ” I would like to thank Harish sir and his team. They made me feel comfortable right throughout the shoot. Every shot was discussed before hand with reference pictures so that I knew exactly what I would be shooting on sets. My comfort as an actor was their top priority and we also had an intimacy director on sets who supervised the entire shoot to make sure every comfort and detail is taken care of. The shoot was done professionally and I was happy with the outcome,’ explains Amrita.

Amrita also feels this is a great time for actors like herself to explore their talent in the digital medium which welcomes fresh faces. The Bengali beauty is candid enough to admit that to break into the acting world without a star father or godfather is difficult but not impossible. “Times are changing and I feel web is the future. While I am not averse to doing films in future, web is where my heart lies currently as opportunities here are in plenty and we get to be part of coming of age subjects here.”

Ask her who she would like to romance on screen in Bollywood and pat comes her reply, “Shahrukh Khan. I have this dream of being in Switzerland and shooting a nice scenic romatic scene with Shahrukh Khan.”

And as far as Hollywood goes, it is Oscar winning actor Leonardo Di Caprio who sets her heart aflutter. We feel if at she crosses paths with the Titantic actor in future, she could teach him Nichiren Buddhism, a branch of Buddhism that Amrita ardently practices.
