Badhaai Ho revisited by Sarah Hodekar – Mother’s Day special

If you are looking for a light hearted entertaining Mother’s Day special watch, look no further than Badhaai Ho. Directed by Amit Sharma, Badhai ho is a movie based on Geriatric pregnancy revolving around Priyamvada (Neena Gupta) who gets accidentally pregnant in her 50s. Her husband Jeetendra Kaushik(Gajraj Rao) is a middle class government employee working for the Indian railways. The couple become a figure of fun in the society when people come to know about her pregnancy. Their older kids too feel second hand embarrassment as stork came visiting their mother a tad too late. It also affects their older son Nakul’s(Ayushmann Khurrana) relationship with his colleague, Renee (Sanya Malhotra). To compound matters,  Priyamvada’s health was not good enough to give birth at such an elderly age, so the doctors suggested her to get an abortion. But despite facing so much criticism and humiliation from society, the mother inside her still decides to give birth to her child. Her maternal instincts kick in and she decides to defy all odds and to protect her seed of love growing inside her unaware of the animosity outside the mother’s womb. It is this instinct of a mother to protect her kids both born and unborn at all costs that makes this film a Mother’s Day must watch. Nd when she starts her fightback, she receives support from quarters earlier inimical to her decision.

Neena Gupta is stellar in her role delivering an impactful performance epitomizing every single quality that our mothers stand for. Her determination to give birth to the child despite facing resentment and backlash from the society makes Badhaai ho a Mother’s Day must watch. Kudos to Neena Gupta for picking up such a role.
