Mother’s Day 2021: 5 must watch movies with your mom to celebrate motherhood

Mother’s Day is just a reason to celebrate but in reality all mothers deserve to feel special everyday. The most challenging and yet the most rewarding job in the entire universe is that of being a mother. At times one can call it a thankless job as well. But if there is one entity who is capable of selfless, pure and unconditional love, it is your mother.

On this special occasion, Aditi Shevade lists five beautiful Hindi films you can watch with your mom.

English Vinglish

Starring the late Sridevi who made her comeback into films after a decade, English Vinglish is a must watch on Mother’s Day. The films revolves around a housewife who struggles to speak English and is often mocked at by her husband and daughter. An exceptional performance by Sridevi and a strong positive message that you can overcome any obstacle by hard work and sheer determination make this movie an inspirational Mother’s Day watch. Sridevi doesn’t merely act but lives and breathes her character. This Gauri Shinde’s directorial is so realistic, it will make you fall in love with the film with every passing second.

Taare Zameen Par

Who hasn’t watched TZP? Didn’t you cry with Darsheel Safari when he had to leave his mother and go to boarding school? If that doesn’t make you cry, I don’t know what will. Tisca Chopra plays the character of Darsheel’s mother in the film. The song “Maa” will make you weep and experience the pain Darsheel was going through. This mother-son relationship will leave you teary eyed and will make you give your mother a tight hug.

We Are Family

The family drama revolved around a mother who is willing to go to any extent for her three kids. Starring Kajol, Arjun Rampal and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead, the film portrays a mother’s concern who’s diagnosed with cancer and is worried who will look after her children. For her kids, she accepts her husband’s girlfriend just to ensure that they are in safe hands. We Are Family is a rollercoaster of emotions.

Secret Superstar

This Advait Chandan directorial is a wonderful tribute to all the mothers who sacrifices so much for their children. A strong mother (Meher Vij) goes against her misogynist husband to support her teenage daughter in fulfilling her dreams. Ammi can even tolerate her abusive husband but cannot see her daughter in pain. Truly, mothers are the most beautiful creations of God.

Mom

The last film of late Srivedi leaves no stone unturned to capture the minds of the audience. A perfect combination of emotions and thrill, Mom is a must watch in today’s scenario. Srivedi who played the role of a stepmother in the film sets out to destroy the lives of the four perpetrators who sexually assaulted her stepdaughter and walked away free. After all even a stepmother is a mother in the end, how can any mother let any child suffer like this? A mother’s love is truly unconditional.

Also, Mimi is an upcoming drama film directed by Laxman Utekar, which is about a young surrogate mother, played by Kriti Sanon. Inspired by the National Award-winning Marathi film Mala Aai Vhhaychy, the film is definitely going to be a must watch on next Mother’s Day.
