Nagarjuna Birthday special

By: Priyal Joshi

On August 29, Akkineni Nagarjuna Rao, better known by his stage name Nagarjuna, turns a year older. The 63-year-old dashing personality has primarily appeared in Telugu movies and has delivered blockbuster hits in Hindi movies. Nagarjuna began his acting career as a young child after being born into the ‘filmy family’ of renowned performer Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Later, in 1986, he made his acting debut in the lead role of the Telugu version of the Hindi film Hero called Vikram.

Despite the film’s moderate success, Nagarjuna really broke through to stardom in 1989 with the release of the romantic drama directed by Mani Ratnam, Geetanjali. The film later won a national award. Since that time, Nagarjuna has produced popular Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films. He has appeared in over 100 films and has taken home two National Film Awards. After the release of this Mani Ratnam-directed tragic love story, Nagarjuna’s fan base experienced an unexpected rise. The romance drama earned the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment that year because of its daring yet powerful subject.

Currently, he has a massive fan following all over India. He has worked in several Telegu as well as Hindi films, making him a household name in the south film industry. We wish him a very Happy Birthday and best wishes for the year ahead.
