High Court supports Sonu Nigam’s Azaan tweet.

Sonu Nigam’s fight against the use of loudspeakers during the time of Azaan received a shot in arm when the Punjab and Haryana High court said declared yesterday that Azaan while an integral part of Islam does not necessarily have to be blared through loudspeaker, reports a leading daily.

Justice MMS Bedi the Punjab and Haryana High court was hearing a plea filed against singer Sonu Nigam over his a series of tweets relating to Azaan that kicked up a nation wide furore last month. The petition filed Aas Mohammad, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana seeking the initiation of criminal proceedings against Nigam was termed as by the judge as a “cheap” attempt to gain publicity. Said Justice Bedi, “A fair interpretation of the words used by respondent no 4 (Nigam) clearly indicates that the word ‘gundagardi’ in tweet no 4 is not addressed in the context of Azaan but the use of loudspeakers and amplifiers.”

We hope this will be the end of the Azaan row which even Sonu Nigam wants to be nothing but history now.
