Tumbadchi Manjula successfully adapts the beloved Kannada film Su From So for Marathi audiences. Strong performances, particularly from Sai Tamhankar, Jitendra Joshi and Usha Nadkarni, make this a worthwhile watch despite its familiar story.

Tumbadchi Manjula arrives with an interesting challenge. It is a remake of the acclaimed Kannada film Su From So, a film that already earned praise for its blend of humour, fantasy and emotion. The good news is that the Marathi adaptation remains largely faithful to the original while successfully adapting the story for local audiences.
The film’s biggest strength lies in its performances. Jitendra Joshi once again proves why he remains one of Marathi cinema’s most dependable actors. He brings warmth, sincerity and effortless charm to his role, making even the quieter moments engaging.
Veteran actress Usha Nadkarni is terrific and lends authenticity to the proceedings. Om Bhutkar also delivers a solid performance and plays his part with conviction. Together, the ensemble ensures that the emotional core of the film remains intact.

However, it is Sai Tamhankar who truly stands out. The actress brings energy, screen presence and confidence to her character, making a lasting impression whenever she appears on screen. Sai has the ability to command attention without trying too hard, and Tumbadchi Manjula benefits immensely from her presence.
The film’s blend of fantasy, folklore and family drama works reasonably well. There is enough humour to keep viewers entertained while the emotional moments land effectively. Having said that, those familiar with Su From So may find few surprises here since the remake follows the original quite closely.
This brings us to perhaps the only reservation one may have with the film. Marathi cinema has built a reputation for telling fresh, rooted and original stories. Over the years, the industry has consistently produced unique films that have won admiration across India. While Tumbadchi Manjula is a competent remake, one hopes Marathi filmmakers continue to invest heavily in original storytelling, which has always been one of the industry’s greatest strengths. This is not a criticism of the film itself but rather an appreciation of the creative standards Marathi cinema has set for itself.
The technical aspects are polished, the performances are strong and the storytelling remains engaging throughout. Even if it doesn’t break new ground, the film succeeds as an entertaining and heartfelt adaptation.
Bollywoodwallah Verdict: A faithful remake elevated by excellent performances from Jitendra Joshi, Usha Nadkarni, Om Bhutkar and a standout Sai Tamhankar. While Marathi cinema’s true magic often lies in original storytelling, Tumbadchi Manjula remains a worthy and enjoyable adaptation.
