Alpha Trailer Review: Lukewarm Start — But Is It Game Over?

The Alpha trailer is finally here but falls short of expectations. With a plot that reveals too much, uneven performances and weak VFX, we rate it at 1.5 out of 5 — though hope remains for the final film.

The Alpha trailer is finally here and honestly, we had such high hopes. The cast is stacked, the budget is clearly massive, and yet somehow the trailer landed with the energy of a deflated balloon.

Too Much Too Soon

The biggest sin this trailer commits? It tells you everything. The plot, the cameos, the big reveals — all of it spilled out in under three minutes. And the Hrithik Roshan cameo- that one fleeting glimpse was the only moment that genuinely made pulses race. Everything else fell frustratingly flat.

Breaking Down the Performances

Bobby Deol: Bobby, we were rooting for you after Animal. But this accent? It feels forced, unnatural and painfully self-conscious. A more straightforward approach would have been far more convincing and watchable. And the chemistry with Alia Bhatt? The trailer promises a deadly duo but delivers something closer to a dull one. The spark simply isn’t there.

Alia Bhatt: Nobody is questioning Alia’s talent — she is one of the finest performers of her generation. But stepping into full-blown action hero territory hasn’t quite landed here. The Gatling gun sequence looked unconvincing, and the acrobatic moments felt visibly wire-assisted, stripping them of the raw, natural energy that great action demands. The transformation isn’t believable just yet.

Sharvari: Now here is the genuine surprise of the trailer. Sharvari walked in and quietly stole the show. Her introduction was visually striking, her stick combat choreography looked polished and purposeful, and she outshone both her co-stars in the promo. If the makers are smart, they will give her significantly more screen time in the film.

Where the Trailer Really Stumbles

The technical execution left a lot to be desired. For a film of this scale, the VFX looked underdone and unconvincing, which directly undermined the credibility of the action sequences. A mountain scene featuring Alia reaching out to Sharvari felt less like a grand cinematic moment and more like a glossy advertisement. And the dialogue? Completely uninspired. Not a single line lands with any weight or punch, which is a serious problem for an action film trying to build hype.

The Verdict: 1.5 out of 5 — But Hope Is Not Lost

The trailer scores a disappointing 1.5 out of 5, and it is difficult to be generous. But here is the silver lining — a weak trailer does not always mean a weak film. Bollywood has surprised us before, and Alpha still has every opportunity to walk into theatres and prove the doubters wrong. The hope is very much alive that the final film will be far more engaging, gripping and entertaining than what this promo suggests.

The trailer may have stumbled, but the race is far from over.
