In a major announcement, Yash Raj Films (YRF) and Posham Pa Pictures have unveiled their first theatrical collaboration, Mupapa, with Ayushmann Khurrana set to headline the ambitious project. The genre-defying film is slated for a theatrical release on February 19, 2027.
The film is being produced by YRF CEO Akshaye Widhani, whose previous production, Saiyaara, emerged as the highest-grossing romantic film in the history of Indian cinema. Mupapa will be directed by Sameer Saxena, one of India’s most acclaimed showrunners and filmmakers, known for creating distinctive and engaging stories.
According to a YRF spokesperson, Mupapa marks the beginning of a long-term creative partnership between Yash Raj Films and Posham Pa Pictures. The collaboration aims to deliver bold, innovative and immersive theatrical experiences for contemporary audiences, with Mupapa serving as the first of several films to be jointly produced by the two banners.
The partnership also reflects Aditya Chopra’s vision of expanding YRF’s studio model under the leadership of Akshaye Widhani, who is steadily building the company’s slate as a producer. Following the phenomenal success of Saiyaara, Mupapa becomes Widhani’s second production venture.
Described as a genre-bending theatrical spectacle, Mupapa promises audiences a fresh visual experience unlike anything seen before. The makers are positioning the film as a cinematic entertainer designed to keep viewers engrossed from start to finish. With Ayushmann Khurrana—an actor celebrated for backing unconventional and content-driven cinema—leading the project, expectations are already running high.
Posham Pa Pictures has earned a reputation as one of the most progressive production houses in the Indian entertainment industry. Its founding partners—Sameer Saxena, Biswapati Sarkar, Saurabh Khanna and Amit Golani—have collectively been associated with several critically acclaimed and popular projects, including Kaala Paani and Maamla Legal Hai.
With the creative strengths of YRF and Posham Pa Pictures coming together, Mupapa is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing theatrical releases of 2027.
